This is the default configuration. So unless you changed it, if you want to use SQL Compact, there is no need to do anything.

What is SQL Compact?

The Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition (to call it the proper full name), known also as SQL Compact or SQL CE is embedded database by Microsoft. Unlike "big" SQL Server, it does not need any specific installation, management or configuration, it's basically just data file.

How to configure SEWEN Wiki to use SQL Compact

SEWEN Wiki uses SQL Compact by default. Open the web.config file and find the connectionStrings element within:
    <add name="SewenPageStoreDB"
         connectionString="Data Source=|DataDirectory|\SewenPageStore.sdf"
         providerName="System.Data.SqlServerCe.4.0" />
    <add name="AccountServiceDB"
         connectionString="Data Source=|DataDirectory|\AccountService.sdf"
         providerName="System.Data.SqlServerCe.4.0" />

There are two connection strings defined:
  • SewenPageStoreDB configures where the wiki page data are stored.
  • AccountServiceDB configures where users and roles are stored.

Both databases use *.sdf files in App_Data folder of your site.

How to create empty databases

The file SewenPageStore.empty.sdf contains empty page database, where only one page (called Home page) is defined. You can also use SQL script contained in SewenPageStore.empty.sqlce to create the required database structure.

In file AccountService.empty.sdf you can find empty membership database. Only one role (administrators) is defined and there are no users. Again, there is AccountService.empty.sqlce script to create this database.

How to create default databases

The file SewenPageStore.default.sdf contains default database containing the sample documentation wiki. You can also use SQL script contained in SewenPageStore.default.sqlce to create the required database structure.

In file AccountService.default.sdf you can find default membership database. You can also use the AccountService.default.sqlce script to create this database. The following users are defined in the database:

User name Password Role Comment
administrator password administrators
user password disabled
